Wings Like Eagles

SCRIPTURE

Isaiah 40:27-31
27 O Jacob, how can you say the Lord does not see your troubles?
O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights?
 28 Have you never heard?
      Have you never understood?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of all the earth.
He never grows weak or weary.
No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
29 He gives power to the weak
      and strength to the powerless.
30 Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
31 But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.

PRAYER

Lord, the more ______ waits, the more it may seem that you do not see his troubles. And some seasons of life are so unfair that he might think that you are ignoring him entirely. Those seasons of emptiness and aloneness can be consuming, almost like a low-grade terror that builds in the background of the heart and threatens to overwhelm. In those seasons Lord, I pray that you would remind ______ of who you are; the everlasting God, Creator of all the earth. Bring to his heart a vision of the amazing strength, endurance, and understanding that you make available to him. Lord, quiet his heart. Still him. Move him into your presence just to sit in silence, and wait. Wait, Lord. Remove from his mind the fear of the unknown, the worry of the future, the pain of the present. Give his heart a singular focus Lord… YOU. Open a conduit from your heart to his. And as he waits, pour forth upon his spirit a generous supply of strength to overcome his fears, of understanding to see his future, and endurance to face his present. Lift him high above his circumstances as his wings catch the wind of your spirit. Make his spirit soar Lord. Give him that surge of strength, that depth of endurance he needs to walk his path. When it comes to him Lord, may it be sudden and supernatural. May he know for sure that it comes from you. May he see WAITING as the conduit that carries this strength. And Lord, because of that, may the word WAIT become sweet to his soul indeed. Amen.

ENCOURAGEMENT

Make the waiting count, my dear friend. Wait long, not for your hopes and dreams, but wait on your Lord. Sit in his presence often and long. Worship him as creator and sustainer. Delight yourself in the intimacy of his presence. And feel yourself soar.
